Getting ready in the rainforest at Shambala Estate

Tucked into five acres of award-winning gardens on Tamborine Mountain, Shambala Estate is one of those venues that feels a world away the moment you turn off Beacon Road. The rainforest closes in around the cottages, the light goes soft and green, and the whole morning slows right down. It's our kind of place. We're Tina and Kristen, a sister duo who travel to you with everything we need, so you never have to leave the estate or the people you love to get wedding-ready.

Because Shambala is an exclusive-use property with self-contained cottages on site, you and your bridal party can settle into one space for the entire morning. We set up our chairs by the best window, lay out the kit, and work through the group while the kettle goes on and the photographer drifts in and out. No salon run, no traffic up the range, no rushing back for the ceremony — just a calm, unhurried morning in a beautiful room.

Both of us are professionally trained in hair and makeup, so for larger parties we work side by side as a team of two and keep everyone moving. Our style suits this venue perfectly: natural, soft and a little beach-bohemian, skin that looks like skin, finished so it photographs beautifully in that bright hinterland light and holds through a long day of greenery, garden ceremonies and dancing.

Local knowledge

What we know about getting ready at Shambala Estate

The space

Shambala's cottages are tucked among the rainforest, and being exclusive-use means the property is yours for the day. We base ourselves in one cottage and set up a proper styling station so the whole party gets ready together in one warm, private spot. Tip: claim the cottage with the most natural light early, and keep the bath and fireplace for relaxing rather than crowding the getting-ready corner.

The light

Up on the mountain the morning light comes down soft and green through that lush canopy — gorgeous, but cooler and flatter than full sun. It's flattering, which is exactly why we lean natural rather than heavy. We position our chairs to catch the brightest window while we work, then build makeup that reads beautifully both in the shaded garden ceremony spaces and out under the open hinterland sky.

The timing

Shambala sits up the range with ceremony spaces spread across the gardens, so there's usually a short stroll from cottage to ceremony — and vendors and guests tend to arrive later than they would at a beach venue. We build both into the run sheet, working back from your ceremony time with a buffer so your hair and makeup are finished and set with time to breathe, photos done, before you walk. No dashing across the estate at the last minute.

A calm morning

8:00am
We arrive & set up
We drive up the range and arrive at your cottage early, unload and set up a styling station by the best window. Kettle on, music low, kit laid out — the morning starts calm.
8:30am
Bridal party begins
We start working through the party, hair and makeup running side by side as a team of two for bigger groups so nobody is left waiting and everyone is camera-ready in good time.
11:30am
The bride
We save you for last so your look is freshest for the aisle. This is the relaxed, unhurried stretch — your hair and makeup built to last through the garden ceremony and into the evening.
1:00pm
Final touch-ups
A final pass on lips, a setting spritz and any veil or hair-piece placement, finished before photos so you're set well ahead of the short walk to your ceremony spot.
Experience you can trust

A safe pair of hands for your hinterland morning

Hinterland garden venues like Shambala come with their own quirks — soft green-filtered light in the cottages, brighter open light out in the gardens, a humid rainforest setting, and a drive up the range that pushes everyone's timing later. We're comfortable in exactly this kind of morning. We know how to light a cottage room for styling, how to build makeup that reads naturally in dappled garden light and holds up in mountain humidity, and how to time everything around a later vendor arrival and the short walk to your ceremony spot.

We're both professionally trained in hair and makeup and fully insured, so booking us is one less thing to worry about. You get two experienced artists who can work separately or together as a team, a calm and unhurried morning, and looks that feel like the most natural, sun-kissed version of you — never overdone, always you.

Venue FAQs

What time should hair and makeup start at Shambala Estate? +

For a mid-afternoon ceremony we usually arrive around 8am and start by 8:30am, finishing with the bride last so your look is freshest for the aisle. The right start time depends on your ceremony time and party size — as a rough guide, allow about 45 minutes per person for hair and makeup combined. Once we know your details we'll send a clear run sheet.

Do you travel to Shambala Estate for wedding hair and makeup? +

Yes — we're a fully mobile service and Tamborine Mountain is well within our area. We come to your cottage on the estate with everything we need, so you and your bridal party get ready together on site without leaving the property. It's around 45–55 minutes up the range for us from the central Gold Coast, and we build that drive into the morning so we arrive early and unhurried.

Can you do hair and makeup for my whole bridal party at Shambala Estate? +

Absolutely. Both of us are trained in hair and makeup, so for larger groups we work as a team of two and move through the party efficiently — from an intimate bride-only morning up to a full party of six to eight. We'll talk through numbers and build a timeline that keeps the morning relaxed.

Will my makeup last all day at a hinterland venue like Shambala? +

Yes. We use long-wear, photography-friendly products with proper prep and setting, so your look holds through the cooler rainforest morning, the warmer open gardens and a long evening of dancing. We finish with touch-up guidance, and the bride is always done last so everything is fresh for the walk down the aisle.
