Babalou sits on Level 1 of the Kingscliff Beach Hotel, right above the sand at Kingscliff Beach. It's all wall-to-ceiling glass, hardwood floors and exposed rafters, with a beachfront balcony looking straight out to the water. It's bright, breezy and unmistakably coastal, and that natural light pouring through the glass is gorgeous for photos, but it's also honest light that shows every detail. That's exactly the kind of room we love getting you ready for.
We're Tina and Kristen, a sister duo who travel to you. Because Babalou is a beachfront function space rather than an accommodation venue, most couples get ready in their Kingscliff or Salt Village stay nearby, and that's where we come in: we bring the chairs, the lighting, the kit and the calm, and set up wherever you're staying. You don't move, we do.
Our style is natural, soft and sun-kissed, the kind of makeup that still looks like you in close-ups on the balcony and in the bright reception light. Everything is built to hold through Tweed Coast humidity and that ocean breeze, so you can walk down to the beach for your ceremony, dance late and still feel polished at midnight.
Getting ready for a Babalou wedding
Babalou itself is a reception and ceremony space upstairs at the Kingscliff Beach Hotel, not a getting-ready room, so the morning happens wherever you're staying. Kingscliff and nearby Salt Village are full of apartments and beach houses minutes from the venue, and we set up fully in whichever one you choose. We just need a bench or table near a window and a couple of power points — we bring everything else, including our own professional lighting.
Kingscliff Beach faces the morning sun, so mornings are clear and bright and Babalou's wall of glass and balcony catch it beautifully. Bright water-and-sand light is flattering but unforgiving, so we build your base to photograph clean and natural — no heaviness, no shine — and finish makeup to suit the real light you'll be standing in, not a dim hotel bathroom.
Ceremonies often happen on Kingscliff Beach or the foreshore just below, then everyone heads upstairs to Babalou, so transitions are short. We time the morning so you're finished, photographed and relaxed before you head over, with a little buffer built in for that coastal breeze and a final veil check.

What time should hair & makeup start for a Babalou wedding? +
It depends on your ceremony time and party size, but for a typical early-afternoon ceremony on Kingscliff Beach or the foreshore below Babalou we usually start around 8:30–9am. As a rough guide we allow about 45 minutes per person for hair and makeup, then a touch-up window before you head to the ceremony. Once we know your numbers and timing we send you a run sheet so the morning is stress-free.
Do you travel to Babalou and Kingscliff? +
Yes — we're a fully mobile sister duo and Kingscliff is right in our home patch on the Tweed Coast. Since Babalou is a beachfront function space with no bridal suite, we come to wherever you're getting ready, whether that's a Salt Village apartment, a Kingscliff beach house or nearby accommodation, and set up completely. Travel within the Tweed Coast, Gold Coast and Byron is included.
Can you do my whole bridal party for a Kingscliff wedding? +
Absolutely. There are two of us, both trained in hair and makeup, so we work side by side and comfortably handle a full bridal party as well as mums and family. Because we share the morning between us, larger groups still finish on time without anyone feeling rushed — perfect for the short turnaround before everyone heads up to Babalou.
Will my wedding makeup last in the coastal heat and breeze? +
Yes. Babalou is beachfront and the Tweed Coast brings humidity and sea breeze, so we build your look specifically for it — long-wear base, secure styling and products that hold through a beach ceremony, the balcony and dancing into the night. We also talk you through a few simple touch-up tips so you stay fresh from the first photos to the last song.
