Ancora sits right on the edge of the Terranora Inlet at Tweed Heads, all Mediterranean-beach-club calm: white breezeblock, soaring ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and that glittering stretch of water just beyond the deck. It is one of our favourite spots on the Tweed to work, because the whole day has a relaxed, sun-warmed European feel that softer, more natural makeup was made for.
We are Tina and Kristen, a sister duo who both trained in hair and makeup, and we come to you. Because Ancora is a celebration venue rather than a stay-and-get-ready estate, most couples set up the morning at nearby accommodation along the Tweed Coast or a quick few minutes over the border on the Gold Coast, and we bring the chairs, the ring light and the whole kit to wherever you are. You wake up, settle in, and we handle the rest.
The look we love here is sun-kissed and soft, the kind of skin and hair that holds up beautifully against the water, the breeze coming off the inlet and a long Tweed afternoon. Whether it is just you, or you and your whole bridal party, we plan the morning so you are finished, photographed and floating into your waterside ceremony without a single rushed minute.
What we know about getting ready for Ancora
Ancora is a celebration venue, not a get-ready-on-site estate, so the morning happens wherever you're staying — and the Tweed Coast and northern Gold Coast are full of beautiful waterfront apartments and homes within easy reach. We're completely self-contained: we bring lighting, chairs and our full mobile kit, set up by the best window in your space, and leave it spotless. All you need is a power point and good morning light.
Ancora is wrapped in water and glass — gorgeous for photos, but all that reflected glare off the inlet and those floor-to-ceiling windows can wash out a flat makeup look. We build skin and eyes with that bright, bouncing waterfront light in mind, so you read as soft and luminous in photos rather than shiny or over-done, both inside and out on the deck.
Tweed Heads sits right on the coast, so humidity and the breeze rolling off the inlet are real factors. We choose long-wear, water-friendly products and lock hair so it holds through an outdoor garden ceremony, sunset cocktails on the deck and dancing — not just the first photo. Styles are planned to move with the breeze, not fight it.

What time should hair and makeup start for a wedding at Ancora? +
It depends on your ceremony time and party size, but for an early-afternoon ceremony at Ancora we'll usually start around 8:30–9am at your accommodation. As a rough guide, allow about 45 minutes per person for hair and makeup, with the bride finishing last. Once we know your guest numbers and ceremony time, we'll build you an exact run sheet so you're never rushed before the drive over to the venue.
Do you travel to Ancora and the Tweed Coast for wedding hair and makeup? +
Yes — we're a fully mobile sister duo and come to wherever you're getting ready. Ancora itself is a celebration venue rather than a get-ready space, so we'll meet you at your Tweed Coast or northern Gold Coast accommodation. We bring all our own lighting, chairs and kit, so you don't need to organise a thing beyond a power point and good window light.
Can you do hair and makeup for my whole bridal party at Ancora? +
Absolutely. We work as a team of two, which means we can get a full bridal party — bride, bridesmaids, mums and more — ready efficiently and on time. Parties of all sizes celebrate at Ancora, and we'll plan the morning so everyone's finished together and photo-ready before you head to the venue.
Will my wedding makeup last through a waterfront day at Ancora? +
Yes. Tweed Heads is right on the water, so we plan for humidity, sea breeze and a long day from the start. We use long-wear, water-friendly products and lock hair to hold through your outdoor garden ceremony, sunset drinks on the deck and dancing. We can also leave you with a few touch-up notes so you stay fresh into the night.
