Getting ready at The Island Gold Coast

The Island sits right in the heart of Surfers Paradise — a boutique hotel where the beach is at the front door and the city hums all around you. Your morning starts in a freshly renovated suite, and your ceremony is just a short walk down to the glass-walled Glasshouse on the ground floor or a lift ride up to the rooftop Penthouse, with the coastline on one side and the hinterland on the other. We love it here because the morning has a relaxed, holiday feeling even with all that bright beach-meets-city energy outside the window.

We're Tina and Kristen, a sister duo who are both fully trained in hair and makeup. We come to you, setting up right in your room at The Island, so you never have to leave the building before the ceremony. Depending on your party size and timing, we'll work as a team of two side by side, or split a larger bridal party between us — whatever keeps everyone glowing and the morning calm rather than rushed.

Our style is soft, natural and sun-kissed — the kind of makeup that looks like you on your very best day rather than a heavy, made-up version of someone else. It's a look built for the Gold Coast: warm light, ocean air, and a finish that still feels fresh hours into the night, whether you're photographed in the bright Glasshouse or up on the rooftop in full sun.

Local knowledge

What we know about getting ready here

The space

You'll likely be getting ready in one of The Island's renovated suites — the larger King Suites have a dining area and plenty of room for a few people to spread out. We set up a clean little station by the best natural light we can find and keep the rest of the room calm. Staying on-site means no travel before the ceremony: you simply head up to the Penthouse or down to the Glasshouse when you're ready.

The light

Every room here has a private balcony, and that balcony light is gold for makeup. We position our chair to catch that soft, open daylight rather than the yellow cast of overhead hotel lighting, so what you see in the mirror is what your photographer captures. The Glasshouse downstairs is wrapped in glass too, so we build skin that's matched for strong daylight — soft and sun-kissed, never heavy or chalky.

The timing

Because The Island has spaces on the rooftop and the ground floor, ceremony start times vary, but it's an all-in-one venue, so there's no transfer to factor in. We build the morning backwards from your ceremony time and finish with a comfortable buffer — and because a rooftop ceremony can catch a breeze, we always lock off hair and lips with extra hold before you head up.

A calm morning

Experience you can trust

A safe pair of hands for a hotel wedding

Getting ready in a hotel suite has its own rhythm — juggling the light, a tight lift schedule and a room full of people — and we're at home in it. As a trained, fully insured sister duo, we know how to set up calmly in a boutique space like The Island, find the flattering light, and keep the whole morning on time so nobody's rushing before the ceremony.

We also know how a Surfers Paradise wedding looks and feels: the bright coastal light, the warm afternoons, the move between the indoor Glasshouse and the open rooftop. That means we build your look and your timing for this venue, not a generic one, so you walk out glowing and your makeup still feels fresh hours later.

Venue FAQs

What time should hair and makeup start at The Island Gold Coast? +

It depends on your ceremony time and how many people are getting ready, but for a small bridal party we usually start around three to four hours before the ceremony. Because The Island is an all-in-one venue with no transfer, we can often finish a little closer to your start time than a venue you'd have to drive to. We send you a personalised run sheet once we know your details.

Do you travel to The Island Gold Coast for wedding hair and makeup? +

Yes — we're a fully mobile service and we come to you, setting up right in your suite at The Island. Surfers Paradise is central to our Gold Coast service area, so there's no need for you to go anywhere before the ceremony, and no travel-cost surprise. We also cover the wider Gold Coast, the Tweed Coast and Byron Bay.

Can you do hair and makeup for my whole bridal party at The Island? +

Absolutely. As a sister duo, both trained in hair and makeup, we can work together as a team of two to get a larger group ready in good time, or one of us can cover a smaller party. If you've more than three or four getting ready, a King Suite gives everyone room to spread out — let us know your numbers and we'll build the timing around it.

Will my makeup last all day in the Surfers Paradise heat? +

Yes. We prep and set everything for the warm, humid Surfers Paradise climate and ocean air, so your look holds from a bright Glasshouse or rooftop ceremony through to the dance floor. Our style is soft and natural but built to last, and we'll talk you through any little touch-up tips for the day.
